Oxford Oxfam book fair to raise money for education in Zambia
A book fair organised by volunteers from the Oxford Oxfam Group will raise funds to provide orphans and vulnerable children in Zambia with a better education. The fair will take place on Saturday 4th April in the Wesley Memorial Hall, New Inn Hall Street from 9.30am until 5pm – and support from Oxford residents is needed.
In the Copperbelt Province of Zambia, many children have lost one or both parents to HIV and AIDS, leaving them with the responsibility of caring for younger siblings and with little money for school uniforms or books.
Oxfam is working with local communities and local authorities to ensure that future generations have the chance to lift their communities out of poverty. The project will focus on teacher training programmes, better educational resources, improving school buildings and facilities, and encouraging more parental involvement in community schools.
The Oxford Oxfam Group is hoping that the funds it raises through the book fair will make a real contribution towards the project’s target of £200,000.
The book fair sells high-quality second-hand and brand new fiction, children’s, academic, and non-fiction books. Entrance is 30p (seniors and children are free) and all proceeds will go to this education project in Zambia.
